SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR GALWAY DRUG ADDICT FOR ROBBERY

A young Galway heroin addict who robbed €50 from an Italian visitor by showing him a syringe has been given a three year suspended sentence by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

21 year old, John Ward, who resides at a Halting Site on the Tuam Road, and formerly at Parkmore Estate, Tuam, pleaded guilty to robbing the man at Fleet Street, Templebar on July 21, 2009.

Judge Hunt accepted that Ward’s syringe hadn’t been blood-filled nor brandished during the robbery and that he told gardai he was “well and truly sorry” for the offence.

He handed down a three year suspended sentence on Ward.
