SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR BALLYGLUNIN MAN WHO POSED AS GARDA

A Ballyglunin man who posed as a Garda and tried to abduct a young man has been given a two year suspended sentence.

Vincent Furey of Monastery Road, Ballyglunin appeared at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

The court previously heard that Furey posed as a Garda and tried to force a 24 year old teacher into his car on of New Year’s Eve 2009 at Barna Road in Salthill.

Furey pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and robbery of a mobile phone.

The facts in a third charge of impersonating a garda, were also admitted.
