Supper club lures foodies to the g Hotel

The newly appointed area manager for Choice Hotels, Patrick Murphy, has a unique perspective on the food and drink suppliers to his company.  Patrick, who also recently took over the reins of the five-star g Hotel in Wellpark, and has overall responsibility for the other Galway hotels in the group – the Hardiman and the House Hotel – moonlights as a part-time farmer in Turloughmore.

Before he starts his day job, he is up at the crack of dawn to do his farm jobs as well as help with his three kids, including twin girls.

At the inaugural Supper Club at the g Hotel held last month, Patrick joked that the Connemara Lamb being served with seaweed, parsnips and wild garlic supplied by McGeoughs Butchers in Oughterard was better than he produced on his farm.

He also shared with the group of diners that he had much in common with Teresa Roche, one of the many suppliers who attended.

Teresa and her family produce Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese at the foothills of the Slieve Aughty mountains on their 200-year-old farm. They supply the likes of the g Hotel and Ashford Castle with their award-winning alpine-style hard cheese, as well as running educational food tours and selling directly to the public from their farm shop.
