SUPERMAC’S PAT MC DONAGH REJECTS IDEA OF SUGAR TAX

Leading fast food retailer Galway’s Pat McDonagh is admitting that sales rise across his stores on children’s allowance day.

However the Supermac’s boss doesn’t believe the introduction of a sugar tax is a good idea.

It’s understood a report commissioned by the Minister for Health is recommending a hike in excise duty on sugary soft drinks in an effort to curb childhood obesity.

It’s now up to the Department of Health’s obesity committee to advise whether a sugar tax should be introduced.

Pat McDonagh says while his company does enjoy a sales boost on children’s allowance day each month, he believes this type of tax will have wider ramifications
