Acclaimed English singer-songwriter Beth Orton will play the Róisín Dubh on Thursday, March 21.

The Brit winner and two-times Mercury nominee is best known ‘folktronica’ sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica, Orton was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit and the Chemical Brothers in the mid 1990s — but those were not her first recordings.

She had previously released a solo album, Superpinkymandy, in 1993, but since it was only released in Japan, it went largely unnoticed by international audiences.

Her second solo album, the 1996 Trailer Park, garnered much critical acclaim when it received a general release.

With Central Reservation (1999) and the 2002 UK top 10 album Daybreaker, Beth Orton developed a devoted fan base, being named Best British female singer in the Brit Music awards of 2000.

Since her 2006 release, Comfort of Strangers, she has moved towards a more folk-based sound and away from the electronic sound of her earlier albums.

Last year, Orton ended the six year wait since Comfort of Strangers with Sugaring Season.

Sugaring Season is about the time of year when trees are tapped for maple syrup. It takes a lot of sap to make a little bit of syrup. But what makes the sap sweet and what makes it flow are these long, cold nights alternating with the ever so slightly warmer days.

Beth Orton quiet style draws the listener in. She’s a performer with charm and humour, with an impressive back catalogue to draw from.

Doors 9pm, tickets €20/€18 members.
