Sun shines on Tag Rugby at Galway Corinthians
Date Published: 28-May-2012
The smell of barbecue cooking, the warm evening sunshine, the crowds sitting on the terrace sharing a beer or two and the competitive action on nine pitches, all combined to make last Thursday at Corinthians as perfect an evening as you could hope for.
It was such a pleasant night that many who came for the first round of matches at 6.40 were still there well after the fourth and final round completed just before 10.00.
The refreshment tent and barbecue stand were as busy as they have ever been as people took the chance to stroll around in the sunshine and watch some of the matches or chose to kick back with their friends on the steps and soak up the sun.
On the pitches the good weather seemed to bring out the best in the teams and there was some good rugby on display at all grades.
At the Advanced level the Beetle Bonnets are making the early running but with each team playing the other twice at this level, there is plenty of time for the others to catch up.
At the next level, this was the second week of the grading process and there were some one-sided matches here but this lop-sidedness should be addressed after the final grading round next week.
Finally, in the Beginners’ Grade there were some very close contests and the skills displayed by some teams made light of the novices’ tag.
It was clear that the rustiness displayed the previous week is being banished and there were some close contests in all grades.
