A Galway woman has been appointed a partner at a well-known firm that provides audit and financial advice for some of the top companies in the country.

It is a dream come true for Sinead McHugh from Beaghmore, Caherlistrane who has now been made a partner in the audit division of Deloitte, which employs around 2,000 people across the country.

Sinead is the daughter of former Galway East independent TD Paddy McHugh while her mother Teresa served as an independent member of Tuam Town Council before it was abolished.

She is a former student of Mercy Convent in Tuam as well as Caherlistrane National School and the staff at both these centres of education are delighted with the news.

Deloitte is an international professional services firm with offices in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway.

It employs around 2,000 people in the Republic providing audit, tax, consulting, and corporate finance services to public and private clients. Sinead – who will be working in the consumer business and technology industry group – holds a Masters of Accounting and Bachelor of Commerce (International) Degree from NUIG and is a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland.

She has been with Deloitte since she left college twelve years ago. When she was in her final year in college they offered her a contract and part of that allowed her to do a Masters in Accounting which they paid for. She was appointed a Director in Deloitte two years ago.

During the course of that employment Sinead gained experience specialising in the provision of assurance and advisory services to clients across a broad range of industries, including the consumer business, energy and resources and food industries.

Sinead has experience in the provision of risk, accounting, advisory, and audit services, and has a focus on large corporates and listed companies. She is one of eight new partners appointed at Deloitte

“Obviously this is a very proud moment for us but also for St. Bridget’s Mercy College, Tuam and Caherlistrane National School where she was educated locally,” said her father Paddy.
