Suicide rate in Galway on the rise

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The suicide rate in Galway is on the rise.

A report published by the national office for suicide prevention shows a slight increase in the number of suicides between 2004 and 2010.

The suicide rate in Galway between 2004 and 2006 was 10.5 per 100 thousand population.

Between 2008 and 2010 it was 11.6 per 100 thousand population.

Nationally, Offaly has the highest rate of suicide in Ireland while Longford has the lowest.

The majority of suicides occur on a Saturday and Monday.
