Sudanese exhibition in Kinvara
Kinvara Area Visual Arts (KAVA) are delighted to be hosting an exhibition of paintings by two Sudanese artists, Salah Ibrahim and Ahmed Hussein, both of whom are based in Darfur. Desert to Doorus will open next Tuesday night, December 29.
Salah Ibrahim’s work is inspired by the ethically diverse tribes of Darfur. He mixes imagery from the bedtime stories told to him by his grandmothers with rich symbols of traditions and customs to create a world where myth and reality coexist. Ahmed Hussein hails from the Dajo tribe, which was prominent in the ancient kingdom of Kush, located in the Nile Valley. The symbolism and imagery of this civilisation imbues his work.
This two-man exhibition promises to offer an insight into a fascinating, ancient and diverse culture that is almost unknown to the outside world.
Desert to Doorus will open next Tuesday evening at 8pm in Kinvara’s newly launched visual art space at The Courthouse on Sraid Locoal-Mendon, Kinvara.
The exhibition will be open from 12 noon to 6pm from from next Wednesday, December 30 to Sunday, January 10.
All are welcome. There will also be a special film night on Friday, January 1, at 8pm.
