Sublime Ryan extends United’s unbeaten run

BARRY Ryan produced a heroic display between the posts for Galway United in the Brandywell on Friday night to extend United’s unbeaten start to the season as Ian Foster’s side moved up to third in the table ahead of the visit of defending League champions Bohemians to Terryland Park tonight (kickoff 7.45pm).
Seamus Conneely got the all important goal for United seven minutes into the second half to cancel out Thomas Stewart’s opener midway through the first half, but it would have counted for little were it not for Ryan, whose display single-handedly ensured United took something from a game in which they were always second best.
Truth be told, it was an unexpected point, but with Cork beating Bohemians on the same night, it means that it is just Derry and United who are left unbeaten ahead of tonight’s round of games, which sees the top four meet – third-placed United host second- placed Bohs, while tabletoppers Derry travel to Dublin to take on fourth-placed St Patrick’s Athletic.
Foster made just one change to the side that drew with Sligo Rovers the previous week, Jay O’Shea returning to the side after his stint with the Irish U-21s in place of Shane Fitzgerald, a change that was inevitable but also forced, as Fitzgerald was ruled out through injury.
