STUDY SHOWS VARIANCE IN FIRE CALL-OUT CHARGES

Galway city and county fire brigades charge 460 euro to attend domestic fires.

A new survey of charges across all 30 fire authorities nationwide shows a signifcant variance in rates.

The study conducted by the Irish Independent shows charges range from 125 euro in Longford to 750 euro – the highest flat rate fee charged nationwide by Mayo fire brigade.

In Galway city and county, 300 euro is charged to attend a chimney fire while 575 euro is levied to attend a fire on a commercial premises.

The paper reports that the Chairman of the Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association John Kidd is against such charges.

He said the IFESA group is calling for a single national fire and ambulance service.
