Students could have been electrocuted in prank, warn Gardaí

Gardaí are investigating an incident believed to be a schoolyard prank where security gates were removed from Colaiste Iognáid and left in nearby playing fields.

The matter was reported to the Gardaí who are currently examining CCTV in a bid to identify the culprits.

A spokesman for Galway Gardaí confirmed they were investigating an incident of criminal damage at ‘the Jes’ on the Sea Road.

“Damage was done to a gate. They were recovered so it’s not a case of theft but these were electric gates so the people who removed them could have electrocuted themselves,” he explained.

“They would also cost a bit of money to reinstate. We have no suspects at present but we are viewing CCTV footage in the area and carrying out enquiries with a view to progressing the matter.”

The school did not respond to calls from the Galway City Tribune.
