STRUCK OFF GALWAY SOLICITOR APPEALS TO SUPREME COURT
Date Published: 23-Oct-2011
A Galway solicitor who was struck off for overcharging clients by more than €400,000 has appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court.
The Sunday Business Post is reporting that former solicitor, Michael J Murphy took up to half of clients’ settlements as well as legal fees.
The 60 year old lodged the money to his own credit union account.
The Solicitors Disciplinary found Murphy guilty of 90 counts of misconduct, including improperly deducting about €105,000 from 15 clients and wrongly taking money from clients in a further 16 cases.
Murphy was struck off the roll of solicitors by the President of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns in June 2010.
