Stephen’s Broke Straight Boys promise one Sharpe gig

The excellent Steven Sharpe & The Broke Straight Boys come to Róisín Dubh on Saturday, August 13.  The gig coincides with the Galway Pride Festival, and is also a chance for Steven and the band to showcase the songs they’ve been recording.

“It’s a free big gay pre-Pride shindig!” Steven says. “The album is about 95% recorded. Just some mixing and mastering to do. Recording is hard! But luckily we’re recording with the wonder Will O’Connor (Willow Sea) from Grounds for Invasion. He is also an honorary Broke Straight Boy as he has filled in to Shane (bass) and Dylan (guitar). The man knows my music inside out at this point. He must be sick of listening to me!”

Steven had a busy Race Week, doing shows with his cover band 4 Mile Circus. These are the ‘bread and butter’ gigs that most working musicians do, but Steven enjoyed them.

“I love singing in 4 Mile Circus, I get to sing all my favourite songs,” he says. “It’s great fun. I love seeing the look on people faces when the bearded blonde gay man sings I Will Survive at 1am in their local! We just did Race Week and there was one gig where a table of lads were looking at me, taking videos. By end of night, they were all up singing Don’t Stop Me Now and giving me high fives!”

Steven Sharpe always brings this high-energy swagger to every gig – his songs are great and his voice is staggering.

Doors for August 13 are at 9pm. Don’t miss it!
