Stephanie and Treasa chosen for local authority arts scheme

Dancer, choreographer and actor, Stephanie Dufresne, and artist, filmmaker and writer, Treasa O’Brien, have received funding from Galway’s two local authorities under this year’s Platform 31 scheme.

Platform 31 is a nationwide initiative that help artists develop new work – it’s run by the arts offices of Ireland’s 31 local authorities, including Galway City and County, in collaboration with the Arts Council.

Kerrywoman, Treasa who now lives in the city, has been chosen from Galway City and Stephanie, from Kinvara, is the County Galway recipient.

Platform 31 is open to mid-career artists, across all disciplines. Recipients receive support as they assess and develop their practice or make work in a new way.

There’s an €8,000 bursary per person, alongside developmental support, which comes from peers, advisors and mentors.

For Stephanie, “being part of Platform 31 means prioritising my own questions and practice above freelance work [that’s necessary] to make a living”.

She intends to explore the sustainability of working in the arts and what it is she wants from life, outside of the career she’s worked so hard to build over the past decade.
