Step down memory lane with Promenade podcast
Promenade the Podcast is a new collection of 16 stories from around the world, dealing with memories and the stories they trigger.
For the series, writers, comedians, poets and explore how a particular song, smell or noise can bring them back in time.
Promenade is the brainchild of Andy Gaffney, who is originally from Wicklow and now lives in Galway. He has a background in radio, including working for 4FM.
“When making my other podcast, Be Grand, a show about what made a person who they are now, I loved how just listening to someone’s story could bring you to places you didn’t expect and that the person might not have expected to tell you. With Promenade I thought it would be interesting if you focused more on that – removed the interviewer altogether and just had one voice and the story they wanted to tell.”
The process began almost two years ago but it took wings during lockdown, he says.
“A lot of people around the world found themselves alone with their stories, taking stock and looking back, so it seemed like the perfect time to make this project. For myself, it meant a lot of days working on this and running on the Promenade in Salthill.
