Steede’s strike snatches spoils for Kilconly

A DRAMATIC late goal from John Paul Steede proved decisive in Kilconly’s victory over a plucky Monivea/Abbey side in the North Board Intermediate football league final at Tuam Stadium on Sunday.
The match, which was hugely competitive, changed direction on more than one occasion.
Kilconly controlled the first half and led by three points at the break.
However Monivea/Abbey hit back with a succession of points and took the lead in the final moments of the game.
But then Steede destroyed Monivea’s hopes when he latched on to a loose ball before striking to the net.
Shortly afterwards Padraig Moran shut the door firmly on Monivea when he sealed victory with a pointed free.
Monivea/Abbey opened brightly and an early Cathal Coleman point hinted at greater things to follow.
However, it proved something of a faslse dawn as Kilconly took control of the game.
