Status Orange wind warning as Storm Hannah approaches

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for Galway, as Storm Hannah is expected to hit tonight.

The forecaster is warning of northwesterly winds with mean speeds of 65-80 km/h, with gusts of 110-130 km/h, strongest along the coast.

The warning is in place from 7pm until midnight.

An orange warning is also in place for Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 4pm to 1am and in Tipperary and Waterford from 10pm to 2am.

Gardaí have issued the following warning: “Cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians should be aware of the danger posed by high winds as they are particularly vulnerable. Drivers of high sided vehicles should take all necessary precautions and pay attention to the warnings.

“We ask people living near coastal, cliff and waterway areas, particularly those with children, to be extra cautious considering the gusty winds forecast.”
