Galway Bay fm newsroom – An attempt by a company, backed by Galway businessman, Enda O’ Coineen to challenge Bus Éireann’s exclusive right to operate the school bus service, is being counter-challenged.
According to today’s Irish Times, the Department of Education plans to ask the Supreme Court to strike out the challenge made by Student Transport Scheme.
STS is backed by U.S Multinational Navistar and Enda O’ Coineen.
STS is appealing a High Court ruling which says the Department of Education does not have to put the schools service out to tender.
However in a motion to the Supreme Court, the Department plans to request that the appeal be thrown out claiming STS has delayed preparing its case.
The Department of Education also claims abuse of process by STS by engaging with newspapers and public representatives.
