Start-ups are here to stay!
More than 1,500 jobs will be created over the next three years by over 100 High Potential Start-Up companies supported by Enterprise Ireland in 2015.
The prediction was made at Enterprise Ireland’s recent Start-Up Investor Day at Dublin Castle where over 300 Start-Up companies, investors and entrepreneurs gathered for the annual event.
Galway was well represented at the event which heard that Enterprise Ireland supported 105 new High Potential Start-Up businesses last year.
In addition, 112 new early stage businesses were supported under the Enterprise Ireland Competitive Start Fund, which injects critical early stage funding into new businesses.
Last year also saw a strong regional representation – with 47% of the high potential start-ups being from outside Dublin.
A total of 61 new female-led start-ups were supported, reflecting the expansion of Enterprise Ireland’s support for female entrepreneurs which included the development of a dedicated Competitive Start Fund to encourage more females to start businesses.
Eleven spin-out companies from higher education institutions were supported in 2015. These businesses are built on publicly-funded research to become new HPSUs.
