A Working Group has been set up to review staffing at St Brigid’s Hospital in Ballinasloe.

Nurses at the hospital are locked in dispute with HSE management over the closing down of a unit and staffing issues.

Talks took place last Thursday between representatives of two nursing unions, the Psychiatric Nurses Union and SIPTU and local HSE management.

An independent Chair facilitated the meeting.

It was decided to set up a working group of representatives of the PNA, SIPTU and local HSE management to review staffing at St Brigid’s Hospital.

Terms of reference for the Working group have also been agreed.

The dispute was sparked last February by the suspension without pay of some nurses at the hospital’s acute admissions therapy unit.

They had continued to work after the unit was shut down by HSE management.
