From this week’s Galway City Tribune – St Patrick’s National School is going all out to raise money for the Irish Red Cross to help the people of Ukraine devastated by the invasion of Russia staging no less than three concerts.

The mixed school on Lombard Street currently has two pupils from Ukraine and is preparing to enrol more in the coming weeks.

“So, the children unfortunately have had to learn about the war in the last couple of weeks and they want to do everything they can to help,” remarked Deputy Principal Ríona Donoghue.

Second class pupil Ilova Koshovyi said that his three grandparents have remained in Ukraine during the invasion.

“They’re doing good at the moment. We’re trying to raise money for the Irish Red Cross for us to give to Ukraine for people who have no homes and had homes destroyed. I really worry about everybody who’s trying to escape.”

His mother Yulia Koshova said the family felt safe in Galway.
