St Michael’s an hour from Croke Park

ST. MICHAEL’S are again set to break new ground next Sunday when they take on Ballyroan Abbey from Laois in the AIB Intermediate All-Ireland semi-final at Newtown Cashel, Co. Longford on Sunday (2.30 p.m.).

The game had been originally fixed for Roscommon but was switched earlier this week to Longford – the venue is about eight miles south of Lanesborough.

As of last evening, St. Michael’s have been told that the fixture will be going ahead at 2.30 p.m. next Sunday – it had been moved around all week due to the inclemenft weather conditions.

It adds up to a rather challenging scenario for St. Michael’s manager Pat Regan – and indeed for his Laois counterpart too – but alas this goes with the territory, in the land of mid-winter fixtures.

The season gone by, now straying into a new calendar year, has been one of magnificent achievement for St. Michael’s as they added a first ever Connacht title to their burgeoning 2008 treasure chest.
