St James’ play attractive football in claiming Division Three league honours
St James’ 2-15
Micheál Breathnach 1-14
Gerard Mulreaney at Pearse Stadium
THERE’S nothing better on a Sunday afternoon in Pearse Stadium than watching a team play an exciting brand of football. And that’s exactly what St James’ produced to claim the honours in the Bon Secours Division 3 final against Micheál Breathnach.
The game was only six minutes old when St James’ scored the opening goal. A marauding run from Lee Vahey down the left saw him play the ball into Aaron Connolly. He in turn found Ruairi Breathnach who dispatched the ball into the net with his right-foot.
A free from Ronan MacDonnacha got Micheál Breathnach on the scoreboard two minutes later only for four consecutive points, from four different scorers, extend the lead for James’ to six points at the water break.
The city side were dominating the game, with Johnathan Duane and Paul Conroy directing proceedings in the middle of the park.
Breathnach’s finally got their second point of the game on 24 minutes when the lively Ronan MacDonnacha kicked over his second point.
