St James’ 0-11

Salthill/Knocknacarra 0-9

Jack Nolan’s precise free-kick taking edged the Jimmies to victory last week in the U-19 A League final as they defeated city rivals salthill/Knocknacarra by two poitns in Mervue.

St James’ won home advantage on a coin toss earlier in the week, and it attracted a crowd of about 300 people for a game that was high on intensity from the start.

The home side opened the scoring with a slick move leading to a converted free-kick from Jack Nolan, but the Seasiders responded immediately with a score from Matthew Thompson.

Darragh Neary, Jamie Hayes and Nial Kirton added to the scoreboard with a point each from play for the home side, but Salthill/Knocknacarra responded with some good scores coming from Charlie Power and Leo Byrne.

Nolan added another free before the break, however, to leave St James’ leading by double scores at the break, 0-6 to 0-3, and they rertained that elad early in the second-half thanks to a brilliant save from James Egan, who denied the visitors what would have been an equalising goal.
