Spuds, nudity and pathos in Famine circus show
Delicious O’Grady, a circus theatre show containing potatoes and nudity, comes to the Town Hall Theatre on Thursday next, April 4.
Written by actor and street performer Colm O’Grady, it is inspired by the works of Flann O’Brien and tells the tale of a family and its demise during the Great Hunger. It is a story of love, loss and potatoes.
Colm O’Grady and director Cal McChrystal (comedy director for the clown routines in Cirque de Soleil and director of the original Mighty Boosh shows) tackle this still painful subject with irreverence, wit and physical skill.
They bring to life characters who may have lived through the potato blight and died of it, presenting a show that is touching, hilarious and uplifting.
According to Róise Goan of the Dublin Fringe Festival “Circus, comedy and the Irish famine . . . might sound like a bizarre combination but believe me it works”.
Delicious O’Grady is on Thursday next, April 4 at 8pm. Booking at the Town Hall Box Office, by phone at 091-569777 or on the web at www.tht.ie.
