SPIDDAL MAN SENTENCED FOR FIREARMS OFFENCES

A Spiddal man charged with firearms offences has been sentenced to five years in prison, with the final two supended.
Kieran Smyth of Park in Spiddal appeared in custody before Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
The 42 year old tatooist pleaded guilty to having a double barrel shotgun and four cartridges in his possession at Carrowmoneash, Oranmore on March 3rd 2003.
Judge Raymond Groarke said the transporting of the gun was to facilitate gang lords in the area.
He then sentenced Smyth to five years in prison with the final two suspended on condition he keep the peace for three years on his release.
