A sponsored sean-nós and Irish dancing challenge will take place at 9pm, in the Cruiscín Lán Hotel, Spiddal, this Sunday, June 8, to raise funds for the village’s Traidphicnic festival, now in its third year.

The festival, featuring top names in Irish traditional music, including Mike McGoldrick and Dezi Donnelly will take place in Spiddal on July 4 and 5.

Loretta Callanan from Lord of the Dance has been teaching participants, as has Marian Ní Chonghaile, who has taken charge of sean-nós dancing contestants for the third year running.

Participants this year include Cliona Standún of Standúns, Spiddal, Róisín Ó Hara from TG4, Andrea Rossi of Andrea Rossi Art Studio in Spiddal Craft Village, and Vincent Barker, Walking West/Siuil Siar.

There is a €5 charge on the door at the Crusicín Lán on Sunday. People can support the dancers and enter the people’s choice vote on the night. There will also be a raffle and prizes.

Coiste Traidphicnic would like to thank all those who have already signed up and those businesses who have offered sponsorship to help make the Traidphicnic happen. Anybody interested in getting involved in Sunday’s dance off should contact Chairperson Bridget Barker on 087-9717080.
