Galway’s first Gigabit Hub has been unveiled, after SIRO and Vodafone announced a new connectivity partnership with the PorterShed last week.

It’s all part of the expansion and relocation of the business from Eyre Square, which will ultimately see 330 desks for co-working and collaboration at Bowling Green and former Connacht Tribune offices on Market Street.

The SIRO-Vodafone Gigabit Hub Initiative is one which provides high speed, reliable one Gigabit Fibre broadband under the initiative. It will become the 17th hub to join SIRO-Vodafone Gigabit Hub Initiative.

SIRO is a joint venture of ESB and Vodafone building Ireland’s first 100% Fibre-To-The-Premise broadband network. This network will ultimately be available to 770,000 premises across Ireland and in 150 towns and cities, with an investment of one billion euro overall.

The network is built on the ESB’s existing electricity network.

Since its establishment over five years ago. the PorterShed has created almost 800 jobs through supporting and accelerating the development of local tech start-ups.

As part of the PorterShed’s expansion, it will add an additional 200 desks, bringing its total capacity to 330 desks overall. And it is now targeting the creation of an additional 1,700 jobs by its member companies as part this new phase of its development.

The PorterShed joining the SIRO-Vodafone Gigabit Hubs will see both new premises receiving a high-quality Gigabit fibre broadband, ensuring that its member companies have fast and reliable broadband. This connectivity, whilst enhancing the attractiveness of the PorterShed, also ensures it has future proofed broadband capable of accommodating speeds of up to ten Gigabits in the years ahead.
