SPECULATION MOUNTS ABOUT NEW MEMBERS OF COUNTY COUNCIL

Speculation is mounting as to who will be the two new Councillors at Galway County Council replacing Fidelma Healy Eames and Ciarán Cannon who were recently elected to the Seanad.

So far, Mayor of Loughrea, Michael ‘Mogie’ Maher seems a front-runner for Ciarán Cannon’s PD seat, although no formal nominations have yet been put forward.

Senator Cannon says the closing date for applications for his seat is September 14th, but that Mogie Maher looks like the strongest contender.

Meanwhile, Senator Fidelma Healy Eames would not be drawn on who she thinks will secure her Council seat in the Oranmore Electoral area.

However Senator Healy Eames says her husband Michael, who it had been rumoured to take her seat is not putting his name forward.
