Special Indreabhán screening for locally-shot Famine film
Arracht, a film shot mostly in Leitir Mealláin and with a cast that features several actors from the Cois Fharraige area will have its Galway premiere in Seanscoil Sailearna, Indreabhán, next Thursday night, March 12.
Directed by Tom Sullivan, this Irish-language character-driven thriller is set during a tumultuous period in Irish history: The Great Famine.
Arracht (meaning Monster) tells of a fisherman who takes in a stranger on the eve of the Famine, having been asked to do so by a priest.
The ensuing events have tragic consequences for Colmán but potential salvation comes in the form of Citi, a sick girl who needs his help.
The cast includes Galway actors Dónall Ó Héalaí, Saise Ní Chuinn, Dara Devaney, Seán T. Ó Meallaigh, Eoin Ó Dubhghaill, Páraic Breathnach and Conall Ó Céidigh.
This preview, hosted by the local film club, is being presented by Access Cinema, as part of a six-venue regional tour. Access is the resource organisation for regional cultural cinema screenings in Ireland.
Arracht was funded by Cine4 – a TG4, Screen Ireland and BAI partnership to develop original feature films in the Irish language. It received its world premiere in Tallin Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia last November and was also screened at this year’s Dublin Film Festival.
