Special guests open Kilcolgan school

KILCOLGAN Educate Together National School was officially opened last week by the most appropriate dignitaries imaginable – the pupils themselves.
The current economic crisis was temporarily forgotten as parents, teachers and the local community gathered to celebrate the opening of this new school, the first in Kilcolgan village.
Singer Jim McKee was joined in chorus by the school children while Mary Hawkes-Greene, President of Burren College of Art, spoke about the importance of different models of education.
The school initially opened its doors on September 1 in Kilcolgan after 18 months of careful research and planning by a group of interested parents from the locality whose belief in the need for this alternative model of education was confirmed by the fantastic response at a pre-enrolment day last December.
