Special Council meeting on city port expansion
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A special meeting of Galway City Councillors will be held in March regarding the proposed city port expansion.
Galway Harbour Company lodged the eight folder planning application with An Bord Pleanala last month.
The 27 hectare extension aims to move commercial shipping out of the medieval harbour into a purpose built multi-modal port which would accommodate much larger vessels.
It’s hoped all four stages of the project could be complete by 2017.
City Manager told councilors at last evening’s meeting that the special meeting will allow for observations only on a report from the executive.
Such observations would then be included as an appendix to the report from the executive to the board.
The meeting is expected to take place on March 24th.
