Son of Connemara emigrants elected Mayor of Boston

Galway bay fm newsroom – Marty Walsh, the son of Connemara emigrants, has been elected Mayor of Boston.

Walsh defeated City Councillor John Connolly by 5,000 votes – almost 3 pecentage points -in an election which has gripped the attention of Connemara people in Boston and at home in Ireland for weeks.

Marty Walsh’s mother, Mary is a native of Ros Cide in Ros Muc. His late father – John Walsh – was a native of Callowfeenish in Carna.   They were both 1950ies emigrants to Boston.  They met and married here and settled down in Dorchester.  They had two sons, John and Marty.
