Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s hoped long-awaited works at the Oranhill housing estate in Oranmore will begin in the coming weeks.

It follows a long running campaign by local residents who have raised concerns about the safety around a large derelict hole in the centre of the estate.

The controversial ‘hole’ had originally been dug up in preparation for the construction of a commercial centre which was never built.

The excavated site is currently surrounded by hoarding.

A spokesperson for Galway County Council told Galway Bay fm news that works are likely to begin in the coming weeks.

These will involve the leveling of the hole and related security works.
