Soccer’s future up for debate

AN FAI meeting — to discuss the future of youth, junior and intermediate soccer — will take place at the SAS Radisson Hotel, Galway on Monday night.
The meeting — one of 14 being conducted across the country throughout September and October — will be attended by a number of FAI officials, including John Byrne, Pat Costello and Chief Executive John Delaney.
Recognising that the foundations of the sports are built at local level, the FAI is committed to the development of a more effective grassroots structure and the provision of quality competitive football opportunities for all involved in the game at this level.
As a result, the FAI are conducting a review of the male youth, junior and intermediate game in Ireland, with the review to focus on developing a strategy for the future development of this sector throughout the country.
