Soap seeks sex symbol with Gaelige

ONCE we had the Man of Aran – that hard-faced, sinewy specimen that was the finest example of manhood which Connemara had to offer the rest of the world.

Now, TG4 have put a call out, looking for a sex symbol – a Cassanova, if you don’t mind – for their hit soap Ros na Rún.

Living in a different time, the audience now looks for something more He-Man than bog man, more sunkissed and brooding, than sunburnt and scowling. The image of the modern Gaeltacht man on the small screen now requires airbrushing and frankly, a good wash.

The producers of Ros na Rún are planning open auditions in the coming weeks, looking for a handsome, dashing actor who could take on the role of a fiendish womaniser who will arrive in the town to wreak havoc amongst the female folk.
