Snow-bound family marooned for three weeks

A West Galway family was marooned in their home for near three weeks when treacherous road conditions leading up to their residence left them stranded at Christmas and the New Year.

And it was only when the gritting lorry arrived to their house last Sunday morning were they able to rejoin society having been prisoners in their own home since two days before Christmas.

Frustrated Cathy Keady and her husband Tony along with their teenage daughter live near Dromavoughan, Moycullen and their house is situated on a steep climb from the village. On December 23, they did their Christmas shopping and since then they have been confined to their home because the steep road to Moycullen village was much too dangerous to travel on.

It was so bad that even their neighbour, who works with the HSE, had to walk the four mile journey to the main Moycullen to Oughterard road and then try and get to work from there.
