While hundreds queued for days in the freezing January cold and thousands more kept their fingers crossed while they went on-line to buy tickets for the Garth Brooks concerts, one Galway City man breezed into town yesterday morning – and had his four tickets bought within twenty minutes.

The young man, from Westside told the Galway City Tribune that he hadn’t wanted to camp out in the street.

The minute he heard that a third date had been added to the Garth Brooks tour, he got into his car, parked up, queued for 15 minutes and managed to buy his four tickets over the counter at OMG @ Zhivago in Shop Street.

“I wanted to go and I wanted tickets but I didn’t want to camp out overnight,” he said, admitting that it was lucky that a third gig had been added at the last minute. The American country singer will now play three concerts at Croke Park, Dublin on July 25, 26 and 27.

But another 200 dedicated Galway Garth Brooks fans worked harder for their tickets. They queued overnight to make sure they secured tickets for the Dublin concerts this summer.

Among them were 20 really determined fans who had camped outside OMG @ Zhivago on Shop Street since 8pm on Tuesday to claim their place at the head of the queue.

Iarnród Éireann is to put on special trains to Dublin from Galway that July weekend to facilitate concert-goers. Already, a number of Dublin hotels have substantially increased their room rates for that particular weekend.
