Small Holes and Potholes takes the road to Clonbur
Little John Nee’s acclaimed one-man show Small Halls and Potholes comes to the All Saints Heritage Centre, Clonbur, this Friday, March 1.
Widely regarded as one of Ireland’s leading solo theatre performers, Little John has been a stalwart of the Galway arts scene for many years, having come here as a street performer in the early 1980s. HIs shows combine lyrical comic storytelling with original music and songs played on a variety of intriguing instruments creating magical soundscapes.
“There are parts of Ireland that are less explored than the moon and that’s where I go to get my songs,” he says. His fans include the legendary singer John Prine.
One of Little John’s previous shows, Sparkplug, won an Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Sound Design. This was later dramatised as a radio drama for RTÉ Radio and won a prize at the prestigious Prix Italia in 2013.
Little John was elected to Aosdána in 2016 and branched out into haiku verse that year too, with the publication of The Apocalypse Came on a Friday.
Little John’s previous shows include The Derry Boat, Rural Electric, The Mental, Sparkplug, Radio Rosario and, most recently, Tea Dance, with the Tea Dance Triode, which premiered at last year’s Earagail Arts Festival.
