Galway primary schools will get an additional 10 S-N-As between them, while secondary schools across the county will receive an additional eight S-N-As.
There will be over 10,900 Special Needs Assistants posted in schools nationwide from September.
The move by Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is aimed at maximising the available budget for special needs education – with an allocation of 1.3 billion euro for 2014.
Galway West TD Sean Kyne says the posts will be allocated on a needs basis.
