Sizzling at 28 degrees

THE first days of June brought a sizzling start to the Summer season with a temperature of 28.6° (83° F) recorded on Tuesday – the highest daytime temperature in Galway for many years.
It even topped the Bank Holiday Monday, which was the hottest day of a scorching weekend of sunshine, with temperatures increasing steadily from Thursday on.
On Friday, the mercury hit 22.5° Celsius, 24.6° on Saturday and 26.5° on Sunday before rising to 28° on Monday.
Several hundred thousand people visiting the city for the Volvo Ocean Race mopped up the good weather as they enjoyed the open air spectacles of the festival.
