An EU funded street art mural launched in Galway’s Henry Street Playground this afternoon was made up of over 6,000 ceramic pieces put together by youth club members and students of NUIG.

Patience was required by all involved earlier this summer in putting the mosaic mural in place at the playground, replacing graffiti that was previously on this section of the playground wall.

Galway ceramic artist Kevin Kelly says that while the project was painstaking he hopes that similar mosaic murals might replace graffiti on walls in different parts of the city in the future.

Deputy Brian Walsh, who along with Senator Hildegarde Naughton, launced the mural at the Henry Street playground praised the Crofton Youth Club members and NUIG students from the Ros Geal Residence for their work on this visual art project.
