SIPTU WARNING OVER COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SCHEME CUTS

Trade Union SPITU is warning that hundreds of Galway jobs will be lost and essential services impacted on, if cuts to community employment schemes go ahead.

An open day takes place in Shantalla this Monday to highlight some of the work being done by the 1600 community employment workers across the city and county. (25/06)

At St. Josephs community centre, workers will have stands to showcase services in the areas of mental health, childcare, disability and youth work.

Junior Minister and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon is among the politicians that have been asked to attend the event in an effort to stop budget cuts to schemes.
