SIPTU TRADE UNION TO HOLD TALKS WITH GALWAY FIRE SERVICES

SIPTU says efforts are being made to hold talks with management over recent changes to Galway fire services.

The new changes which involve extending the city limit to a radius of 5 miles before the part time crew is called in were implemented at the weekend. (DEC 1)

It impacts on around nine staff, who had previously been working on a radius of 2.5 miles.

Galway County Council says the new changes will NOT impact on public safety.

The trade union now says it is hoping to hold talks with Galway fire services this week, and is threatening industrial action may be taken over the changes.
