SIPTU DEMANDS MEETING ON PLANS TO CLOSE PARTS OF MERLIN PARK HOSPITAL

Trade Union SIPTU is calling for a meeting with HSE management to discuss plans to close sections of Merlin Park Hospital.

It was confirmed last night that several units at the hospital, including Unit 4, the only stroke unit for the West, is among the wards to be closed.

SIPTU claims it was told by the HSE earlier this week that there were NO plans to close any units at Merlin Park hospital.

While there are plans to close some units, the HSE West is refuting suggestions that the entire hospital is to close.

Paul Hardy, Health Operations Organiser with SIPTU says closing some Merlin Park facilities is unacceptable.
