Casanova Jackal...new single on streaming sites now.

With venues unable to host live music for much of the summer, the Galway busking scene was imbued with a sense of responsibility – and multi-instrumentalist and producer Sean Meaney was among the most captivating and consistent street performers during that period, drawing large crowds with his indie-rock backing band.

Now living back home in Buncrana, the twenty-two-year-old has firmly shifted his focus to his song writing. Working under the moniker of Casanova Jackal, he is now celebrating the release of his debut single.

You Were Never Really There hit streaming sites on January 3. A soulful, jazz fusion ballad that highlights Sean’s smooth vocals and dynamic musicianship, the track represents a very strong start for the singer-songwriter.

The foundation for the project perhaps lies in his influences – a blend of 60s and 70s soul rock, and more contemporary indie acts like Mac DeMarco and Alice Phoebe Lou.

“I think I take from my musical influences a bit,” he explains. “The way that I write – I produce band music but it always comes from a more folky place. The musicians that I quite like… There’s a band Feng Suave and a thing that’s said about them is that they’re kind of old soul revival. I think maybe I was trying to do that with my song. It’s quite jazzy sounding.”

Casanova Jackal is in its early days as a project and Sean is open to it heading in any direction. Having spent time busking and gigging in Berlin late last summer, it has been a big transition moving to an isolated home recording set-up and away from listeners and potential collaborators. It has been a positive experience in a lot of ways, but he is very keen to work with people again when possible.
