Singer and acoustic guitar maestro for Seapoint
Popular singer/songwriter and acoustic guitar maestro Newton Faulkner plays Seapoint Ballroom in Salthill this Saturday.
A graduate of Guildford Academy of Contemporary Music, Faulkner scored a number one with his 2007 debut album Hand Built By Robots. He also generated a lot of interest and YouTube hits with his innovative covers of Massive Attack’s Teardrop and the theme from Spongebob Squarepants.
The recording of his second album hit a snag when Newton broke his wrist while on a family skiing trip in France. (He wasn’t even skiing at the time, just walking out the door, a grimly farcical note that appealed to Faulkner’s sense of humour.)
A metal plate and nine pins later, and Faulkner was on the mend and playing his beloved instrument once more and returned with the wryly titled Rebuilt By Humans in 2009.
Faulkner released his third album Write It On Your Skin in 2011, and followed it with the self-produced Studio Zoo in August of last year.
Studio Zoo was unique in that the songwriter decided to stream the recording of the album live online. Faulkner’s home studio in East London was set up with four cameras, to allow fans to follow every detail of recording the album – with no producer or engineer, only Faulkner and a few guests, including Ted Dwane from Mumford & Sons.
The ever-busy Faulkner is working on yet another new album, so expect old songs and new when he comes to Galway.
