A city councillor has proposed that a ban on white PVC doors, windows and fascia boards in urban areas be included in next year’s new City Development Plan.

The proposal, which has been put forward by Councillor Colette Connolly (Lab), will be up for discussion at next Monday’s City Council meeting.

Cllr Connolly proposed the motion after noticing the condition of the white PVCdoors and windows along Bohermore, which she says are filthy from the emissions coming from the traffic which passes along the busy route.

“The problem is that the carbon from the cars and trucks sticks to the PVC, and when the doors and windows of houses are white PVC, it is so noticeable. It’s impossible to clean the dirt off, and I feel this impacts of the visual amenity of the city,” she said.

Speaking to the Galway City Tribune, Cllr Connolly expressed a feeling of despair at the lack of interest shown in the visual beauty of the city, and with the lack of consistency in planning decisions, which she feels take away from all the city has to offer.
