SHORTAGE OF GALWAY WORKERS FOR FISHING INDUSTRY

While the frosty and snowy weather is causing havoc on land it is a different story at sea where fishermen on the west coast have had a good run of favourable conditions.

The fishing vessels have not been confined to port for a long time as the weather has been coming from the east and the north east for the most part.

It all shows that it is an ill-wind that does not benefit somebody or some sector, but Galway workers are in short supply for the fishing industry.

About 4 out of every 5 who work on the fishing boats out of Rossaveal are non-Irish.

Some from as far away as Eastern Europe, Russia, Egypt and even a number from the Phillipines.
